ZACH Theatre‘s production of Les Miserables is currently running at their Topfer Theatre.  Yeah, yeah, you saw the movie – why go and see it live?  Um, because it’s LIVE and ten times better!  Let’s just put it this way – Russell Crowe who???

Personally, I have seen Les Miserables 4 times on the stage and this production by far was the best.  The story itself is emotional – the “miserable ones” longing for individual liberty yet struggling to be loved – but it takes an amazing cast and crew to really make you feel the emotion.  The actors were superb, the music was amazing, and set and costumes were perfect.  Seriously, y’all….it was stunning.

Pat McRoberts and Nicholas Rodriguez, who play Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, completely blow those silly box-office actors in the movie out of the water.  The way their voices can stir emotion gives you goosebumps.  After the show, we had the opportunity to meet the cast & crew and I was like a silly school girl gushing over their talent as I told them what an amazing job they did!

As I have said before, I really love the intimate Topfer Theatre.  We were 5 rows from the back and we could see every facial expression on stage.  There is a sense of being pulled into the story when you are not in a theater filled with 1000 people.  It’s as if they are telling the story just to you.  Topfer Theatre has become my favorite place to see a play or musical in town.

Les Miserables at ZACH Theatre will be running through November 3, 2013.  This is a show that is not to be missed.  Even if you HAVE seen the movie, you haven’t experienced the story until you see it live.  Take your family or take a date – don’t miss the talent we have here in Austin – it will be a memorable night!
